Weekend break in Anderby Creek
Although Lincolnshire is just down the road, if someone mentions the East Coast we think straight away of the Yorkshire East Coast and the rugged rocks of Flamborough or Scarborough. However a friend mentioned a mystical place in Lincolnshire called Anderby that was filled with sand dunes and miles of abandoned coastline, after a quick research we settled on the beautiful Seaside lodge, packed our bags and headed to the Lincolnshire coast for the weekend.
It was a rugged February and the wind was slapping the east coast on our arrival so we quickly unpacked, whipped the dog out for a quick hour run and then hunkered down by the fire to wait for the storm to pass.
The following morning the sun was out and after a quick research we were settled on the coastal walk up to Sutton on Sea. As promised it was miles of eerily quiet beaches and rackety old paths, passing closed up beach huts painted in a rainbow of colours and old couples taking a picnic and a stroll down the seafront. A tired dog in tow we stopped in Sutton for a quick Chip shop stop and stumbled along a cracking vintage shop before returning the way we came and settling in for the evening.
A few people had suggested going the other direction down the coastline towards Chapel St Leonards which is highly recommended. In keeping with the rest of the coastline the beaches opened up for miles, broken up only by the dramatic north sea Observatory and the creatively executed Cloud watching bar.
We spotted the odd looking Admiral Benbow that can only be described as a Working Mens Club in an old toilet block but it had a great beer selection and was both dog and child friendly which was lucky as we had both in tow. Fueled up and ready for the return walk we spent the remainder of the walk house hunting, getting lost amongst the hidden tracks and enjoying the sea air.
Seaside Lodge - The beautiful seaside lodge, ideally located, seconds from the beach and nestled in a quiet corner overlooking the fishing lakes. Also the perfect dog friendly spot with a fully fenced in area.
Knick Knacks Vintage, Sutton On Sea - I don’t feel like I should share this but far too good to keep to ourselves
North Sea Observatory - Not to be missed, and cannot be missed due to its grandeur, its also a good place to stop for a drink and toilet break and is dog and kid friendly.
Anderby Cloud Bar - The worlds First dedicated Cloud watching ‘bar’ as aesthetically pleasing in structure as you would imagine.
Admiral Benbow - A bar filled with knick knacks, about 2metres wide, blankets for the dogs to sit on, hot chocolates for the kids with a tunnocks on the side and beer for the adults, I mean whats not to love?
